206 Bourke Street introduces new mural, The Lotus Garden
Artist Jason Parker's 'The Lotus Garden' has been unveiled at 206 Bourke Street, Melbourne
A tranquil oasis has emerged in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD at ISPT’s 206 Bourke Street.
Commissioned to reimagine the entrance connecting the retail centre to the nearby bustling Chinatown precinct, artist Jason Parker’s captivating and dreamlike garden scape, entitled ‘The Lotus Garden’ reflects the cultural significance of the Lotus flower while creating a peaceful sanctuary for reflection.
Artist Jason Parker commented, “My aspiration was to create an artwork that instills peace and serenity into the vibrant aura encircling 206 Bourke Street. I specifically chose the lotus garden due to its deep-rooted significance in many Asian cultures, aiming to honor this essence within the heart of Chinatown. ISPT graciously granted me complete creative liberty, making this project a fun and unrestrained journey of artistic exploration.”

The mural artwork is the latest in a series of cultural events and collaborations between 206 Bourke Street and the Chinatown precinct, with the centre recently celebrating the Mid-Autumn Luminous festival in September, and Lunar New Year celebrations in February earlier this year.
