POWERING A LOW CARBON FUTURE
National Solar PV Project
In 2016 we embarked on a national, 4 stage initiative to install Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels across our property rooftops. The rollout was the first of its scale in Australia and aimed to set a benchmark for sustainable leadership while providing clean, cost-effective, low-carbon energy to our customers.
Stage 1 – commenced November 2016 and completed in September 2018
- $1.2M investment in 0.9MW of solar PV systems
- 3,000 solar PV panels covering 20,000 sqm of roof space installed on 12 commercial and retail property
- Powering 367,069 sqm of commercial and retail space
- Generated 1,361 MWh in year one – enough to power 450 homes and 12% higher than the production benchmark
- Provides over $300K in electricity savings per year for our customers
- Over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 saved per year – equivalent to emissions from 480 tonnes of coal burned
Stage 2 – commenced in October 2018 and completed in June 2020
- $9.8M investment of 3.8MW of solar PV systems
- 13,000 solar PV panels installed, covering 75,000 sqm of roof space on 12 retail centres (includes 3 upgrades from Stage 1)
- Generated over 5,083MWh of clean energy in year one – enough to power over 630 homes
- Provides over $1.3M in electricity savings per year for our customers
- Over 3,600 tonnes of CO2 saved per year – equivalent to emissions from 1,813 tonnes of coal burned
Stage 3 – commenced January 2021 and due for completion by July 2022
- Investigations into Stage 3 are underway for 23 commercial and retail properties
- The estimated project budget is $7.4M and will provide 3MW of solar PV systems
- Expected to save 4,300MWh per annum – enough to power 600 homes
- Expected to save $970K in electricity costs for our customers
- Estimated 3,000 tonnes of CO2 saved per year – equivalent to emissions from 1,780 tonnes of coal burned
- Stage 3 will also investigate industrial-scale applications of solar, coupled with new technologies such as battery storage
Stage 4 – underway
- Stage 4 will focus on driving future revenue generation opportunities through renewable
We expect to have over 50 buildings with solar PV panels installed once Stage 4 of the project is underway. It’s just one of the ways we’re future-proofing our buildings and responsibly investing in a low carbon future. You can find a full list of properties currently participating here.
