Reconciliation Action Plan
OUR RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN
ISPT acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we live and work and holds deep respect for Elders past and present.
OUR RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN JOURNEY
A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a promise to listen to, learn from, and work with and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to make positive, real-life steps towards a more reconciled Australia. It follows a four-stage process to Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate, to allow organisations to continuously develop their reconciliation commitments.
REFLECT: BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS
ISPT formally commenced its RAP journey in 2022 with its ‘Reflect’ RAP. The purpose of the Reflect stage is to prepare an organisation to engage in reconciliation meaningfully. It includes engaging with staff and leaders on the importance of reconciliation and developing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders to understand how best an organisation can have an impact across its sphere of influence.
Diversity and inclusion principles have been part of ISPT’s culture throughout its 30 year history, and commencing a RAP has been a natural extension to invite our people, partners, and stakeholders to be a part of this important journey.
Key Reflect RAP achievements:
- Reconciliation is formally embedded within ISPT’s ESG Strategy, with a 2025 flag on the hill target to ‘embed Indigenous reconciliation, inclusion and diversity principles into all business processes and operations’
- Procured over $1 million from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses over the last two years from FY2022-23
- Delivered company-wide, small-group listening workshops and cultural awareness training with our people to identify actions to embed reconciliation within our culture
- Partnered with the National Gallery of Australia to celebrate the fourth National Indigenous Art Triennial Ceremony
- Delivered a new native garden at 477 on Pitt designed by Indigenous Landscape Architects Yerrabingin, as part of our commitment to designing with country
- Celebrated our 5-year partnership with the KARI Leadership program, dedicated to increasing the representation of Aboriginal leaders within industry through increased educational opportunities
INNOVATE: IMPLEMENTING CHANGE
In 2024, our journey continues with the launch of our new Innovate RAP. We remain committed to reinforcing and extending our partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, groups and communities to increase respect, understanding and meaningful collaboration.
Our key Innovate initiatives include:
- Building genuine connections through strong long-term partnerships that move beyond simple transactions
- Recognise that our first step in building and growing respect is to improve our own cultural and historical knowledge and capacity
- Using our sphere of influence to identify where we can improve economic and social outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, stakeholders and businesses through our supply chain, our developments and our properties
- Maintain strong governance principles to ensure ISPT’s actions are accountable and transparent throughout our journey
“This Innovate RAP is both an opportunity and an invitation for ISPT to expand its understanding of its core strengths and deepen its relationship with its community, staff, and stakeholders.
Implementing an Innovate RAP signals ISPT’s readiness to develop and strengthen relationships, engage staff and stakeholders in reconciliation, and pilot innovative strategies to ensure effective outcomes.”

KARI LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
ISPT has been a founding partner of the KARI Leadership program since its inception in 2016. The program is dedicated to providing education to support increased representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in leadership positions, while providing an opportunity to strengthen ISPT’s cultural understandings.
As of early 2024, 62 Aboriginal leaders have completed the tailored, mini-MBA program with many alumni going on to take up CEO, Director and Deputy Secretary roles making an even bigger difference for their communities.
Each year ISPT employees sit in with the cohort, and discuss topics such as recruitment and retention, cross-cultural negotiation, or building our RAP. We have implemented ideas every year thanks to this unique opportunity, and in December 2022 were honoured to receive the Commitment to Aboriginal Excellence award and 5-year Partner Recognition award by the KARI Foundation, in recognition of our long-term support.
