Modern Slavery Statement FY2023

How we're advocating for ethical supply chains

Respect for human rights and ethical labour practices are a priority for ISPT and a key part of our ESG Strategy. As property leaders, it’s important we look for, and report on, the risks of modern slavery in our operations and supply chains and take actions to address those risks.

We recognise the cleaning industry is susceptible to modern slavery and other forms of labour exploitation, and for a long time, cleaners have been vulnerable to wage theft, wage stagnation, insecurity and poor working conditions. ISPT is committed to supporting fair pay for our cleaners, eliminating modern slavery in our business dealings and positively impacting the livelihoods of workers and stakeholders across our supply chains.

Our Modern Slavery Statement

Our FY2023 Modern Slavery Statement, which is coordinated by ISPT’s Modern Slavery Working Group in consultation with internal and external stakeholders, highlights the newest initiatives we’re taking to combat modern slavery.

Collaboration with industry peers

We worked with the Property Council of Australia and 14 leading property companies to develop an online platform that evaluates suppliers against the requirements of the Modern Slavery legislation. The platform streamlines the reporting process and allows suppliers to easily share information with property companies.

Driving change in the cleaning industry

ISPT is one of the founding members of the Cleaning Accountability Framework (CAF) established in 2013. CAF is an independent not-for-profit entity dedicated to improving labour practices in the cleaning industry. CAF is represented by stakeholders across the cleaning supply chain and includes many of our industry peers and partners.

ISPT was the first to adopt CAF in our cleaning contracts and seven of our properties were amongst the first certified. A CAF-certified building provides assurance that services are being procured, managed, and delivered in a way that respects cleaners’ labour rights, including the avoidance of modern slavery. ISPT now has the largest number of CAF certified assets in the industry and we’ve pledged to certify all properties that are 100% ISPT owned and operated.

Over the past year, our collaboration with CAF has continued to evolve through the development of a portfolio rating framework, allowing for a more scalable and efficient process for all supply chain stakeholders. This initiative is yet another way we support the transformation of the cleaning industry, leading the way for industry best practice.
